Founded by two recent Master's degree graduates from Washington University in 1983, Alternatives to Living in Violent Environments (ALIVE) has been providing emergency shelter and support groups to domestic violence survivors and their children ever since. Over the years, ALIVE has added individual adult counseling, therapy for children witnessing domestic abuse, court advocacy, emergency transportation, community education, and training over the years. ALIVE now operates from two offices in St. Louis and Franklin Counties, supported by thirty staff members and over 100 volunteers.
